SO…I decided to make a post and quick video to explain and make for easy sharing in the future!
How To Change Your Master Password In MetaTrader 4 – MT4
When you create a new MetaTrader 4 account, you are given a string of upper and lower case characters as a password. At this point, you decide to save them in a safe place, so that you have it to be able to login to other computers, VPS setups, or your mobile devices.
This unique password is essential to have access to, but not something you want getting out as it is a direct access to the funds you have worked so hard for.
Now, YES… you can add it to a password safe program or app, but here is how you can eliminate the issue altogether.
So, let me explain to you in a few easy steps!
Step 1
- Open your MT4 Trading Terminal
- Click on Tools > Options
Step 2
- Select the Server Tab
- Click on the “Change” button to the right of Password
- Enter your current MT4 password
- Select Change master password
- Type the password of your choosing
- Confirm by typing it again
- Click “OK”
Step 3
- In the lower right corner of your MT4 terminal, you will see the bars turn red
- It will then state Invalid account
Step 4
- Click on the File Tab > Login to Trade Account
Step 5
- Enter your MT4 account number
- Enter your new password
- Select the correct Server for your account
- Select the check box for Save account information if you prefer
- Click “Login”
Step 6
- That’s it! Give it a minute to fully load, and then you should see that the red bars change to a green/blue color in your Metatrader 4 Terminal
